Tech- Two interesting things I noticed in the tech sector.
1) I had to get a replacement Kindle since my last one decided to take a leap off of the kitchen counter. The interesting thing was when the insurance company was preparing to ship me a new one they asked me for the last four digits of my credit card and the expiration date. I was a little curious why he only needed that much information. Within a few seconds the one dollar transaction to verify the credit card existed had been run through. This started me thinking, if they can identify my credit card with only the last four digits cross referenced with the expiration date- how long will it be before we purchase, identify our selves and check up on others all with one number. Maybe even a number like our social security number.
2) Google announced today that they are investing 100 million to develop original 24-hour programming on their own distribution channels. They stated they want to develop longer formats for Youtube other than just the short 3-10 minute clips we are used to. I have been working on a new format for music release that combines music video with short films. Youtube making an investment this big in new formats shows I am following the right train of thought and encourages me to continue work on this new format. I expect Google is positioning for an aggressive push of Google TV and this new programming is an indication of what’s to come.
